We are seeking a highly organized, strategic, and people-focused leader to develop and professionalize our operations with an emphasis on HR. This role is essential in supporting our growing team, fostering a culture of trust and stability, and driving key initiatives that will ensure our employees feel valued, empowered, and aligned with StratumAI's long-term vision.
This Chief of Staff role is expected to overlap between a traditional Chief of Staff role and a Head of People role common at startups. As our Chief of Staff, you will take charge of shaping our organizational processes, managing talent acquisition for technical roles, and driving performance management initiatives. Your efforts will directly contribute to increasing employee retention, enhancing operational efficiency, and supporting our business development goals.
This position is remote-first, with a preference for applicants based in Canada.
StratumAI & the Leadership Team
StratumAI creates advanced resource models that empower operating mining companies to make smarter, more efficient decisions about mineral extraction. Our proprietary neural networks produce 3D maps that optimize mining operations, helping companies reduce costs and increase production of minerals needed for our society to function.
The Leadership Team is critical in aligning StratumAI’s operational goals with its strategic vision. As the Head of People, you will work closely with our’s Co founders team to ensure that our most valuable resource—our people—are set up for success.
Role Responsibilities
- Talent Acquisition & Recruitment:
- Lead and execute recruitment processes for technical and leadership roles.
- Conduct initial screener interviews, build pipelines, and manage relationships with top-tier talent.
- Develop and implement innovative strategies to attract and retain high-performing employees.
- HR Process Design & Implementation:
- Build and optimize HR processes, ensuring compliance with Canadian employment laws and best practices.
- Create frameworks for onboarding, training, and offboarding.
- Implement systems to track and improve KPIs related to performance and employee satisfaction.
- Performance Management & Growth:
- Conduct high-level performance reviews, propose actionable solutions, and track employee progress toward goals.
- Develop frameworks for setting clear expectations and ensuring accountability.
- Plan and deliver workshops that align team development with organizational objectives.
- Keeping founders and executive team focused on the things that matter.
- Culture & Retention:
- Foster a culture of trust, stability, and collaboration across the organization.
- Develop initiatives to enhance employee retention and ensure that employees feel valued and supported.
- Act as a stabilizing force during times of change, growth, or uncertainty.
- Business Development:
- Partner with leadership to develop strategies to further business development focused but not limited to HR (can include sales, fundraising, product development etc.).
- Provide insights into team capabilities and organizational structure to support scaling initiatives.
- Assist with executing business development initiatives when dedicated team members lack capacity.
Role Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in HR leadership, People Operations, or a similar role, preferably in a startup company.
- Proven experience developing and implementing HR processes from the ground up.
- Demonstrated success in recruiting for technical and leadership roles, including managing screener interviews and talent pipelines.
- Strong understanding of performance management frameworks and the ability to design KPIs for tracking employee success.
- Experience working in startup environments with organizations under 100 employees in similar roles.
- Experience planning and leading corporate workshops and training sessions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and maintain stability across teams.
- High level of organization and conscientiousness; able to manage competing priorities effectively.
- A professional demeanor that projects authority, reliability, and trustworthiness.
