Chief Financial Officer

We are seeking an experienced and highly analytical Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our team. This individual will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing StratumAI’s financial strategy as we scale globally. You will oversee all financial operations, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and provide critical financial insights to guide the company’s growth and fundraising efforts.

This position is remote-first, with a preference for applicants based in Canada.

StratumAI & the Leadership Team

StratumAI creates advanced resource models that empower operating mining companies to make smarter, more efficient decisions about mineral extraction. Our proprietary neural networks produce 3D maps that optimize mining operations, helping companies reduce costs and increase production of minerals needed for our society to function.

As a member of the Leadership Team, you will ensure that StratumAI’s financial health aligns with our ambitious vision while maintaining transparency and trust with investors and stakeholders.

Role Responsibilities

  • Financial Strategy & Reporting:
    • Lead the preparation of quarterly investor updates, financial statements, and reporting packages.
    • Oversee the collection and organization of financial information for taxes, audited financials, and compliance reporting.
    • Develop and present financial models for internal budgeting and external projections to support fundraising efforts.
  • Accounting Operations:
    • Manage accounts payable and receivable to ensure accurate and timely financial processing.
    • Handle invoicing and ensure timely billing and collections.
    • Oversee the financial aspects of contracting, with a focus on handling international sales and withholding taxes.
  • Banking & Transaction Management:
    • Manage bank account operations, including wiring money and monitoring incoming and outgoing transactions.
    • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all wire-related processes.
  • Accounting Operations:
    • Manage accounts payable and receivable to ensure accurate and timely financial processing.
    • Handle invoicing and ensure timely billing and collections.
    • Oversee the financial aspects of contracting, with a focus on handling international sales and withholding taxes.
  • Collaboration with Development Team:
    • Work closely with the development team to create and draft key business metrics, such as CAC payback and other performance indicators.
  • Banking & Transaction Management:
    • Manage bank account operations, including wiring money and monitoring incoming and outgoing transactions.
    • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of all wire-related processes.
  • Compliance & Governance:
    • Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards, international financial regulations, and best practices. The accounting process can be done directly (if CPA) or outsourced to an external accountant.
    • Work with external auditors and tax consultants to manage compliance for multinational operations.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis:
    • Build robust financial models to support strategic decision-making and resource allocation.
    • Collaborate with the leadership team to forecast revenue, expenses, and cash flow for long-term planning.
    • Track revenue-related metrics and propose recommendations and adjustments of focus.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    • Act as the key point of contact for investors regarding financial updates and quarterly reporting.
    • Foster trust and transparency with stakeholders by delivering clear and accurate financial insights.
  • (optional) Fundraising Material Preparation
    • Prepare fundraising material (deck, data room, financial model) for growth stage fundraising ($30-80M capital raise).
    • Plan fundraising strategy and timing.

Role Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in financial roles — either accounting or finance (investment banking, venture capital, corporate finance) background is acceptable.
  • Experience working with or within organizations under 100 employees.
  • Proven expertise in preparing investor reports, quarterly updates, and compliance documentation.
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable/receivable processes and international tax considerations, especially for withholding taxes on global sales.
  • Demonstrated success in financial modeling for internal budgeting and external fundraising projections.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Be Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or have an equivalent professional accounting designation.
  • Experience working with international clients and managing contracts across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Familiarity with financial tools and platforms like QuickBooks, Xero, or similar.
  • Strong communication skills for effectively presenting financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
